It’s that time of year again! Halloween is just around the corner and we at Reynolds & Stoner Orthodontics are here to get you ready. For those of you currently in braces, you may be wondering how you can stand out with your costume while disguising your orthodontic treatment. Fear not! Here are six fun costume ideas you can try that make the most of your braces.
Darla from Finding Nemo
This character from the classic kid’s movie, Finding Nemo, is often what comes to mind when people think of costumes featuring braces. Darla’s enthusiasm for animals (often times too intense) and full face of metal made her one of the most memorable characters in the movie.
To achieve this look, find a purple sweater, white button down shirt, plaid skirt, plastic bag filled with water and fish and, most importantly, add freckles and something that resembles headgear to your face.
Ugly Betty
Similar to Darla, Ugly Betty can also be an easy costume to recreate. Her quirky style can be constructed using a knee-length pattern print skirt, pattern print button down shirt, sweater vest, stockings (or socks), Mary Jane shoes and glasses (preferably red). If you really want to take it a step further, top the look with a Guadalajara poncho!
Katy Perry from her “Last Friday Night” video
Take a trip back to the 80’s with Katy Perry’s look from her music video, “Last Friday Night.” This video gives two options for costumes: geek or party girl. Both feature braces and lots of color. Don’t forget the hairspray!
Kip from Napoleon Dynamite
While not the main character, Kip Dynamite’s cinema debut captured a cult following that has inspired thousands of Halloween costumes since its release almost 15 years ago. To recreate this look, grab a pair of khakis, a polo (preferably light blue), brown belt, large glasses and a cardboard sign with “Lafawnduh” written on it. Top it off with a mustache and, you guessed it, your braces.
Jimmy Fallon and Will.i.am in the “Ew!” Music Video
Comedian Jimmy Fallon and musician Will.i.am channeled their teenage girl alter egos, Sara and Mir.i.am in the “Ew!” music video. The great thing about these costumes is that they are perfect for best friends undergoing orthodontic treatment. Check out the video below!
