Greensboro Invisalign For Kids
Invisalign clear aligners are excellent for patients of all ages, whether you want to move your teeth around for cosmetic or other reasons. While Invisalign is an excellent treatment option for teens and adults, Invisalign for kids helps treat many orthodontic issues in children before they arise.
Although Invisalign can be an effective treatment for kids and patients of all ages we highly recommend Angel Clear Aligners as our clear aligner treatment option.
What Is Invisalign For Kids?
A child’s mouth is complex and constantly changing. The mixture of permanent and primary teeth constantly shifts as teeth fall out and new teeth take their place. Invisalign has aligners made particularly for children who have developing mouths. Invisalign for kids is a great way to fix any issues with their teeth and bite development before they become major concerns.
Invisalign treatment works in the same way for children as adults. You have to wear your Invisalign throughout the day, preferably around 20-22 hours each day. Your child should only remove their aligners to eat or brush their teeth. To help gauge if your child is wearing their aligners properly, Invisalign for kids has built-in compliance indicators that fade from blue to clear the longer they are worn.
Is Your Child Eligible For Invisalign?
The Invisalign system can be used as a phase one treatment to prevent certain orthodontic issues before they develop into more serious problems. Phase one treatments typically begin anywhere from ages 6 to 10 and prime the mouth for better results or more efficient treatment during phase two, which occurs between ages 10 and 14.
Ideally, children should visit an orthodontist around when they turn 7 years old. Their first few permanent teeth should be appearing around this age, making it easier for us to determine if they have enough room to accommodate all their adult teeth. However, if you notice any orthodontic issues arising before your child reaches the recommended age, please do not hesitate to schedule a consultation. Some common issues that can be corrected with Invisalign are:
- Improper tooth spacing
- Complex spacing
- Overcrowding
- Narrow dental arches
- An underbite
- An overbite
How Will Invisalign Affect Daily Life?
Invisalign for kids is very noninvasive. So long as they remove their aligners when eating and brush their teeth before replacing them, they will be fine. It doesn’t even limit what kinds of food they can eat, as long as they maintain their aligners and oral hygiene.
Also, they can still participate in any sports or hobbies they prefer, no matter how active those hobbies are. They still need a mouth guard if they play any contact sports. The Invisalign aligners should not always be considered a mouth guard to protect their teeth.
